So, we’ve been pretty quiet at the Moogiemedia offices for a while. Behind the scenes, however, there’s been a flurry of activity.
The P.O.P. EP, released on CD at the Klub Kakofanney gig in summer, is now available for download on Bandcamp.
Mainly, though, there’s been lots of work on a new album. It has a photography theme (the planned title is Girls And Film) and is due to be released in Spring 2016.
I’ve been spending a lot of time (and money) bolstering the capabilities of Moogie Studios. including an ‘upgrade’ to 8 track reel to reel and building a plate reverb.
The reason for this analogue approach isn’t about rejecting digital technology. Rather, the idea is to be constrained to certain working methods (adding that 10th vocal harmony isn’t going to be possible unless it’s bounced down – in which case it’s going to be really crunchy).
It’s also to ensure a particular type of sound, which is consistent throughout the album. Being limited to a home-made plate reverb, a few springs and real spaces such as my bathroom, will hopefully create a distinct sound environment – something which is easy to veer away from when you can dial up thousands of different convolution reverbs with a few clicks of the mouse.
Tracks have been now been laid down for 8 songs. One has had a final mix and a few others are nearly ready.
There’s still a lot more work to be done – the aim is to record 24 tracks like a 24-frame film – but you should get to hear some preview tracks, and see a few pictures and videos of the recording process soon.
